SPRING 2010

The 2009/10 season was a banner year for the House of Music with Daniel Lapp at the helm of numerous exciting projects. Both our Joy of Life Choir and our BC Fiddle Orchestras performed at the opening ceremonies for the Olympic Torch Relay in October. Daniel went on to perform at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver in February.

The always sold out Home for Christmas Concert 2009 featured juno award winner Barney Bentall along with our own stellar line up of musicians including Folkestra, the Joy of Life Choir and the BC Fiddle Orchestras. The fiddle orchestras have also had the great fortune to share the stage with Ashley MacIsaac & with Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas this year.

The BC Fiddle Orchestra and the Whitehorse Fiddle Kids have been participating in an exchange this year, with BCFO spending a week in Whitehorse immersed in the fiddle culture of the north in February and reciprocating by hosting the Whitehorse kids in Victoria for a week in May.

FALL 2010

The 2010/11 season is well underway. Watch for us at the Oak Bay Light Up, November 28th, and at our Home for Christmas Concert, December 18th at St. Andrews Presbyterian. Tickets will go on sale early in December.

FIDDLE DANCES

Occassionally, the House of Music hosts old time Fiddle Dances. Held in small venues, these fun, affordable family Saturday nights are an opportunity to learn and enjoy some of the dances that our parents and grandparents enjoyed. Our 40 piece all ages student orchestra, led by Daniel Lapp, will have you kicking up your heels to some Polkas, Waltzes, Foxtrots, Schottisches and more. Kids can fish the pond for prizes while everyone has an opportunity to win fabulous spot dance prizes. Enjoy a potluck snack break and spend an evening with other families looking for some good old fashioned fun.
